Strategies for Teaching Second Languages

Suitable for home-educators of children of any age.

It is never too early or too late to introduce a second or additional language. You do not need to be fluent to be able to make a positive impact on your child's language learning.

Game Design

Games Design Course

A short course held during school holiday time for 9-13 year olds. Using analytical skills, participants will evaluate a range of games and learn about game design theories. Then, using Agile project management methodologies, teams will create a new and unique game in a short time frame. Please note that although we will be focusing on board games, lots of the processes will be similar to those used in the computer games industry.

Teach Your Child to read

Teach Your Child to Read

A half day workshop for parents, carers and childcare workers. Working alongside a child enabling them to learn the skills of reading is a wonderful experience. Each child is unique and in the workshop we explore a number of ways to make learning to read fun, exciting, accessible and engaging, including how reading is currently taught in schools. Suitable for parents/carers of children who have already started learning to read, as well as pre-school, toddlers and babies. It is also particularly relevant for home-educating families.

Curriculum Design

Curriculum Design for Home Educators

A one day workshop suitable for all home educators. One of the most amazing aspects of choosing home education for your family is the opportunity to create a totally unique and personalised curriculum. During the workshop you will explore the curriculum design process, reflect on your aims and goals and investigate how to present your curriculum so that you can share it both with other adults and your child or children.

Parent Consultation

Parent Consultation

Individual Consultations are an opportunity to talk about you and your child's learning. I specialise in more able learners and how to avoid misdiagnosis (sometimes highly creative children are given a wrong diagnosis of ADHD), how to cope with asynchronous development and twice-exceptionality. During the consultation we can discuss all aspects of learning including school, explore appropriate resources, complete assessments if the parents and child wish to, and talk about the wider implications of being particularly able.
